Gender roles in a nutshell: the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang entrances in The Goblet of Fire.
also, to my knowledge neither of those schools were sex-segregated in the books
That bothered me more than the Dumbledore yelling, actually.
Nicolas Flamel was an alum of Beauxbatons.
The first headteacher of Durmstrang was a witch.
Bam.
In the books, it even says that there were boys and girls from each school. Thanks Hollywood for making Durmstrang buff and all athletic men and Beauxbatons all feminine and dainty.
Just imagine what it would have meant for every kid watching, seeing girls walking beside the guys in Durmstrang being “manly” and boys walking with Beuxbaton being flirty and feminine.
It would have shown that girls and boys can be however they want.
It also suggested that the only way a female could have be selected to participate was if she was not up against any male competition. In the books Fleur is chosen as the best candidate for her school from a selection of female AND male students. And she was the best PERSON. Not the best GIRL.
all men are Russian and all Women are French.

honestly, the lack of empathy that the culture on this website expresses towards famous people blows my mind.
there have been more than a handful of posts attempting to call out Ariana Grande for what happened in Manchester. Like nevermind that she was there and that she has to live with the fact that there are children who are no longer living because they came to see her in concert. Like never mind that she has the rest of a tour to do after her workplace was targeted by a terrorist attack!!!!
like do y’all not realize that there was a terrorist attack at her damn workplace????? She was at work last night! That’s her job!!!!
idk it’s just exhausting… and it’s all written in that ~style~ of writing that you asses use when attempting to downplay someone’s pain and suffering. you know the one… the one that screams “this is said casually, but informed by the fact that i care way too much and i’m so morally better than everyone else it’s honestly laughable”
but like… sometimes… there isn’t a moral better when it comes to famous people. sometimes, they’re just fucking people living their damn lives! y’all have this sick obsession with proving yourselves morally better than others… and famous people are your favorite targets because their lives are pushed out there for public consumption so you feel like every single aspect of it is a way for you to prove your existence is somehow better than theirs.
it’s fucking disgusting and for y’all to use a terrorist attack at someone’s workplace to justify how you’re better than them because yOu wOUld HaVE hANdelED it ~beTTer~ just goes to show how disgusting and not better you all are.
I love my city, and I’ve been sick to my stomach all day knowing that it was attacked by a ‘Muslim’. Manchester is the most multi-cultural and accepting city, and it hurts that someone would do this. And it hurts that people might think that I condone it. I work in a hospital. One of the hospitals where some of the injured are being treated, and the atmosphere is very obviously tense. Everybody, patients and staff alike are deeply aggrieved. I know they probably can’t help but associate me with it in some way, and that really affects me. I’m just sick of this. My thoughts have been with the young people and children who lost their lives way too soon. I hope their families and friends find the strength to go on. I hope our beautiful city recovers from this horrible wound.
Some incredibly horrifying things are happening in Marawi, which is in my country. A terrorist group has taken over, buildings are burning, people are dying. Another terrible thing to note is that the government has not sent help to the communities. Our president is all the way in Moscow and refuses to cut his trip short. Our government is calling it propaganda. It is so much more than that.
Please please please if you do pray, please pray for Marawi. Please pray for the world, with what happened in Manchester, to Bangkok, to Marawi.
